Check out our interview with Nikola here:

Who are you? Please introduce yourself briefly!

I am Satoshi. Actually we are all Satoshi. I am a long time supporter of blockchain technology and have been involved in the industry since early 2013. I also deeply care about Bulgaria and the future of its people, so this conference is an opportunity for me to give back.

Why did you decide to join the LibertyBits conference for а second time?

Independence thinking is an important ingredient in the pursuit of personal freedom. A local grassroots initiative such as LibertyBits – free of corporate & political agendas – is the perfect place to connect with like-minded people, and to share ideas about furthering our individual freedoms. I hope we will keep having this event for many years to come or “na mnogaya leta” as the chant goes.

Why is decentralization important to you?

To me decentralisaiton means censorship-resistance and immutability. The historical records and therefore the current reality are determined by a global distributed consensus rather than by the powers of the day. It is the best way to protect against tyranny.

How does the future society looks like to you?

I expect there will be a bifurcation of society along the lines of digital technology literacy&aptitude. Similar to historical divisions along the lines of literacy, wealth, social class, religion. We are already seeing some societies going in the direction of digital servitude to big tech overlords. I am hopeful that some societies will manage the transition more equitably.

How much convenience are you ready to give up for having an independent life?

I am very utilitarian in my day-to-day life and have sacrificed a lot of conveniences over the past 30 years in order to further my personal development.

What would you say to people who don’t care about the risks of growing centralization and the impact of monopolies?

Jesus Christ recommends that we

“Forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”

– The Bible, Luke 23:34

… but I would also remind them that

“The price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men”

– Plato

… and that

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

– Benjamin Franklin

Bob Marley, Nelson Mandela, Hristo Botev and Vassil Levski also said a few things on the topic.

What are your expectations from the conference this year?

I am looking forward to meeting more bright minds and learning about the latest developments.

Thank you very much, Nikola! It is always a pleasure talking to you. You are such good friend and LibertyBits supporter! We really appreciate it and are lucky that this year you are joining us as a speaker too for you have truly got so much to say.

#LibertyBits2019 is taking place on 25th June 2019 at Sofia Tech Park
